The hidden dangers lurking inside open-weight AI models
Open-weight artificial intelligence (AI) models offer organizations greater flexibility, cost savings and control, but they also introduce unique supply-chain risks because their behavior is embedded in complex model weights that may be difficult to inspect or verify.
The article highlights concerns such as model poisoning, hidden backdoors, data security issues and the amplified risks that arise when AI models are integrated with agentic systems that can access sensitive tools, data or networks. To mitigate these risks, enterprises should apply rigorous governance, provenance verification, testing, access controls and supply-chain security practices to AI models just as they do for traditional software.
